Dear Friends,
This Sunday is the last Sunday before we enter Holy Week, and on this Sunday we hear of Mary anointing Jesus for death with costly perfume, kneeling before him to anoint his feet. This is a lavish act of love and service.
In Lent we often give things up, fret over our flaws, then worry when we come to the end that we didn’t stick to our disciplines or pray enough. What if in the last days of Lent and during Holy Week we focused on lavishing love on Jesus by lavishing love on and serving those around us? What if we anointed others with kind words and actions? What if we lavished love on Jesus by standing with those who are facing fear and death . . . now?
There are always opportunities to love like this, in our personal, daily lives and in the world. Look for people nearby to anoint with your love; read the newsletter for opportunities in the larger community.
A special email went out yesterday about ways to stand with the disappeared and included a gathering tonight, the protest tomorrow, and preparing for a Palm Sunday Procession that speaks to our need to shout “Hosanna!” Or “Save Us!” in this time when the Powers and the Principalities have raised their heads.
See you in church!
Faithfully, Suzanne+
