Dear Friends,
A number of clergy having been talking about how we and our parishes might offer a faithful response in this alarming time for our nation. What does it mean to offer Christian Witness?
We have decided to offer “Witness Wednesdays,” beginning next week on June 4. Clergy from various Episcopal churches—All Saints, Church of our Savior, St. Chrysostom’s, Grace, St. John’s, and St. Peter’s—will offer a witness each Wednesday at the Federal Plaza downtown from 12-1 pm, praying for our nation, our government, and for those harmed by government actions.
In the first few weeks, we will pray for those who have been disappeared and deported without due process. We hope those working in the Federal Building will experience our presence as prayerful for them, too.
We’re making this up as we go along but feel called not to be silent. We plan to gather each Wednesday for the summer and welcome anyone who wants to join us in prayer during that time. So if you feel called to offer a prayerful witness, please join us! Talk to Courtney or me for more information.
And of course there are many other things going on at church! Last Sunday we had a lovely Rogation procession, tomorrow we head to the Cathedral for the ordination of Bryan and Colin, this Sunday is the last Sunday of Easter (and the first Sunday of the month—come to announce birthdays and anniversaries!), and next Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost when we’ll have baptisms at 9 and 11.
